After an eventful four days in March Madness during the Round of 64 and Round of 32, we’re headed to the Sweet 16.
That’s right! Only 16 teams remain, and you want to be a part of the action. However, you want to make sure that you don’t make any rookie mistakes when betting on these games at NCAAB betting sites.
Listen to the advice below so you don’t make those rookie mistakes.
1. Parlaying Favorites
The public cleaned up in the Round of 32. There was only one favorite that lost in the entire tournament during the Round of 32. Squares who bet moneyline parlays with favorites took home a nice coin. However, that’s ultimately one of the worst bets you can make during March Madness. We call it March Madness for one reason: the madness that comes with it.
We typically get massive upsets and unpredictable outcomes that have us talking for days. You don’t want to be betting parlays with favorites in March Madness at any stage of the Tournament.
But now, because we barely got any upsets, the games should be incredibly tight throughout. We’ve got amazing games on the slate with spreads that aren’t super high. Other years, much crazier things have happened, giving No. 1 seeds some easy victories in the Sweet 16.
Not this year. We’ve got matchups that are scary for all No. 1 and No. 2 seeds that are still alive.
Don’t be a square. Stay away from betting parlays with heavy favorites. It’s not the way to go. Sportsbooks love it when the public takes these.
2. Don’t Try To Recover From Losses!
Again, March Madness is madness. Crazy things happen. Just when you think you know what to expect in a game, it goes the complete opposite.
You don’t want to chase your losses. That’s a rookie mistake. Bet on the games you want to bet on and then leave the sports betting app. Don’t open it back up trying to recover losses. For most, it’ll only make things worse.
You’ll lose the first game and then try to bet on another game. Once you lose that, you feel so bad that you’re going to try and recover your losses. But then you lose again, and now you’re down three units instead of one.
Chasing losses sounds good at the moment, but it’s not. Don’t make that mistake.
3. Stay Away From Emotional Bias
Unless you’ve watched your favorite team every game and have analytics and metrics to back up your thinking, it’s probably best to avoid betting on your favorite team with a large sum of money.
If you’re betting on your favorite team as entertainment, that’s one thing. If you’re betting your mortgage on your favorite team, that’s not ideal.
If your favorite team loses and you lose a lot of money, you’ll be in the dumps for days, weeks, or even months depending on your losses. I’d recommend staying away from betting on your favorite teams unless you’re a professional sports bettor or just looking for an entertainment bet.
4. Research!
Most rookie sports bettors don’t even care to research the bet they place. They just put the bet in when they open the app and that’s that.
If you don’t want to be a rookie, research your bets before placing them. Look at analytics, trends, and numbers, or whatever else might help you for your sports bet. There could be injuries that you are unaware of.
You can also check in with other sports bettors to see their thinking. You can read articles or hit up a couple of your friends about their opinions on the game to see if everyone is on the same page.
There are so many tools you can use to back up a sports bet. The more you use those tools, the better you’ll become at sports betting. Make sure you do your research on the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight before placing your bets.
5. Line Shop
You can save a lot of money on juice if you just line-shop. Many rookie sports bettors only use one app that they’re comfortable with. They’ll open up that app, check the lines for the games and bet it.
However, that’s not the way to profit long-term. The best way to profit long-term is by taking the best line possible. You don’t want to get caught backing a team at -4.5 if you could’ve got -3.5. Imagine the game finishes a four, and you lose because you didn’t open another sportsbook to get a better line.
That’s a rookie mistake and a sure way to lose money long-term.
