College Football Sunday Odds: 3 Week 1 Picks to Watch

by Scott Kacsmar
washington rivalry

Sunday’s college football board offers a useful reminder that betting a favorite and believing a favorite will win are two completely different decisions.

No. 4 Notre Dame is laying nearly three touchdowns to Wisconsin. The No. 17 Washington is being asked to beat its biggest rival by more than three touchdowns. No. 9 Ole Miss has the shortest spread of the group against No. 24 Louisville, but even that number sits dangerously close to the most important touchdown margin in football.

For bettors comparing the College Football Sunday odds, the smarter approach is to examine the spread, total and moneyline separately. The best NCAAF betting sites can show different prices on the same game, and Sunday’s slate contains exactly the kind of half-points and juice differences that make shopping worthwhile.

The favorites are obvious. Finding value requires asking a harder question: which part of each market is actually worth paying for?

Apple Cup Odds: Forget Washington -23.5 and Watch the Total

Washington should win the Apple Cup. The -2800 moneyline makes that expectation painfully clear.

Paying $2,800 to win $100, however, is not an interesting betting proposition. Neither is automatically laying 23.5 points simply because Washington owns the stronger roster.

This is still the Apple Cup, and Sunday marks the 118th meeting between the programs as Washington begins its third season under Jedd Fisch. The Huskies are No. 17 entering the opener, while the rivalry will serve as their first game of the season. The official Apple Cup preview confirms the 4 p.m. ET kickoff at Husky Stadium.

The better angle is the over 50.5.

Washington can do most of the scoring work itself. If Washington State contributes 14 to 17 points, the Huskies only need a normal offensive afternoon to push this game beyond the number. Rivalry games also have a funny habit of producing meaningless-looking fourth-quarter touchdowns that matter very much to anyone holding a total ticket.

Best pick: Over 50.5

Moneyline lean: Washington wins, but -2800 is an easy pass.

Prediction: Washington 38, Washington State 17.

Notre Dame vs. Wisconsin Odds: Lambeau Could Turn This Ugly

Notre Dame is favored by 20.5 points, but the more revealing number may be the total of only 46.5.

The market expects the Irish to control Wisconsin without necessarily turning the game into an offensive carnival.

That makes sense. Notre Dame brings one of the strongest defensive profiles on Sunday’s board, while Wisconsin’s cleanest path to competitiveness is slowing the game down, running the football and shortening the number of possessions.

The matchup takes place at Lambeau Field rather than Notre Dame Stadium. Notre Dame leads the all-time series 9-6-2, and Sunday will be the first head-coaching meeting between Marcus Freeman and Luke Fickell. The Notre Dame game preview also highlights the extensive coaching connections between the two staffs.

Notre Dame -20.5 could cash, but it requires the Irish to create real separation.

The under 46.5 needs only a game in which Wisconsin struggles to score and Notre Dame becomes conservative once control is established.

That feels like the cleaner route.

Best pick: Under 46.5

Spread lean: Wisconsin +20.5 is preferable to laying the points.

Moneyline lean: Notre Dame wins, but -1800 offers almost no practical value.

Prediction: Notre Dame 31, Wisconsin 10.

Louisville vs. Ole Miss Odds: Sunday’s Best Spread Bet

Now we get to the real fight.

Ole Miss is only -6.5 against Louisville at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. Unlike the other two matchups, this is not a game where the moneyline treats the underdog like a lottery ticket.

Louisville is +215 to win outright.

Ole Miss has plenty of reasons to be favored. Trinidad Chambliss returns after throwing for 3,937 yards with 22 touchdowns and just three interceptions in 2025. Kewan Lacy rushed for 1,567 yards and 24 scores, giving Pete Golding’s first full-season roster proven offensive firepower. The Ole Miss-Louisville preview also confirms this is a neutral-site matchup in Nashville rather than an Ole Miss home game.

That location matters.

So does 6.5.

An Ole Miss touchdown victory beats Louisville +6.5 by half a point. If the market ever reaches Louisville +7, that number becomes even more attractive because a seven-point Rebels victory produces a push rather than a loss.

My preferred play remains the underdog.

Best pick: Louisville +6.5

Moneyline lean: Louisville +215 is the only underdog moneyline on Sunday worth considering as a small higher-risk play.

Prediction: Ole Miss 31, Louisville 27.

Sunday’s Best Bets Ranked

If I were ranking the card purely by betting appeal, Louisville sits first.

1. Louisville +6.5 -The most competitive game, a neutral field and a ranked underdog receiving nearly a touchdown.

2. Wisconsin-Notre Dame Under 46.5 -Wisconsin’s best game plan should naturally help the under by limiting possessions.

3. Apple Cup Over 50.5 – Washington can carry most of the scoring requirement, while Washington State only needs to contribute enough to keep the total moving.

The two gigantic favorite moneylines are the easiest bets to avoid. Washington -2800 and Notre Dame -1800 ask bettors to risk enormous amounts for very small returns.

That is not safety. It is expensive certainty in a sport famous for occasionally setting certainty on fire.

College Football Sunday Odds Verdict

The College Football Sunday odds offer three very different betting lessons.

Washington should beat Washington State, but the total provides more value than Washington’s enormous moneyline. Notre Dame should control Wisconsin, but a slow Lambeau game makes the under more attractive than asking the Irish to cover three touchdowns. Ole Miss deserves to be favored, yet Louisville +6.5 provides the best combination of price, competitiveness and upset potential.

The Sunday card is therefore simple:

Apple Cup Over 50.5. Wisconsin-Notre Dame Under 46.5. Louisville +6.5.

For more Week 1 analysis, Todays Lines will continue tracking how these markets move toward kickoff.

The favorites can all win Sunday. Bettors do not get paid merely for figuring that part out.
