The DP World Tour is the secondary golf tour below the PGA Tour and encompasses many continents, having begun from the humble origins of the European Tour of the 1972, that produced major champions and PGA stars such as Severiano Ballesteros and Nick Faldo.
Which Continents Does the DP World Tour Visit?
Opening Swing
The DP World Tour starts in late November taking in multiple tournaments Down Under in Australia, South Africa and one in Mauritius.
International Swing
The new year in January rings in the International Swing with events in the Middle East, taking in Dubai, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Kenya and once again, South Africa for the final two weeks.
Asian Swing
Late March sees the Asian Swing underway with events in Singapore, India, Japan and China. In between events, the cream of the DP World Tour travels across the Atlantic for the first two major championships of the year, the Masters and PGA.
European Swing
Mid-May, the DP World Tour starts its traditional European Swing with many well-established events in mainland Europe. The first stop is Belgium, then it is on to Germany, Sweden, Netherlands, Italy and closing with a second event in Germany.
Closing Swing
The Closing Swing sees the Open Championship and Scottish Open take center stage, where the cream of the PGA Tour travel across to try and grab a piece of history. Those elite events on the DP World Tour are sandwiched between events in France, Czechoslovakia and Denmark.
There is also the opportunity for DP World Tour players to dip their toes in the water of the big league over on the PGA Tour during the Closing Swing with the Kentucky and Barracuda Championships.
The Back 9
The final run-in of events on the DP World Tour is called “The Back 9” and sees the ranking list (The Race to Dubai) conclude, which is very lucrative with the top 10 players receiving PGA Tour cards for the following season. “The Back 9” has three tournaments in Great Britain, the British Masters, the Dunhill Links and the flagship PGA Championship. The players also visit Ireland, Switzerland, France, Spain and South Korea.
The PGA and DP World Tour Relationship
Since the advent of LIV Golf, the DP World Tour has been taken under the umbrella of the PGA Tour with co-promoted events such as the Scottish Open and Open Championship.
There is also the opportunity for the DP players to travel back across the Atlantic to the Kentucky and Barracuda Championships and, at the end of the season, the top 10 players on the DP World Tour without PGA Tour cards qualify for their playing privileges for the next year.
Early season PGA Tour winner at the Farmers Insurance Open, Matthieu Pavon, was one of those graduates.
