5. Chicago Blackhawks (5)
The Chicago Blackhawks picked up three of their five cups between the years 2010 and 2015, an era which was without a doubt a golden era for the team.
During their golden era they also reached the conference finals twice in 2009 and 2013, meaning they pretty much made the finals or semifinals in five of six seasons. Although all good things must come to an end, since 2015 the Blackhawks have only made the playoffs on three occasions, losing in the first round all three times.

Since, they been a dumpster fire, with Chicago as one of the worst-performing teams in 2024.
However, the future might be bright however if their number one draft pick, Connor Bedard sticks around for a number of years, although that could be debatable as rumours are already circulating that he wants out of the organisation. If Bedard sticks around they might see a Stanley Cup by 2030.
4. Boston Bruins (6)
The Bruins are a strange one because they have only six cups to their name, with their first coming in 1928, they won twice between 1969 and 1972 and their final victory was in 2010.
The reason Boston only winning six cups is strange? Because they have an eye-watering 20 appearances in the finals and have lost 14 of them (more than any other team). The Bruins have long been established as one of the best teams in the league and almost always make the playoffs.

Since 1967 Boston has only failed to make the playoffs on seven occasions and in 2023 set the record for the most wins by a team in a season, only to then go out in the first round of the playoffs.
The Bruins can’t do much more than they already are, it’s one of those situation where they could win 5/6 Stanley Cups in the next 20 seasons or absolutely zero, you never can tell with Boston, but without a doubt they should have more cups to their name and should be hitting at least 10 or 11 by now.
3. Detroit Red Wings (11)
Stepping away from Canada, American teams have dominated in recent years and the 3rd overall team to make this list is the Detroit Red Wings who picked up 11 Stanley Cups between 1935 and 2008. Although the Red Wings never had a domination era, almost all their cups came sporadically although they did have a hot streak in the early 50s, winning three times between 1950 and 1954.
Detroit’s last Stanley Cup win came in 2008 and their last finals appearance came in 2009. Since then things have been slowly going downhill for Detroit as they made the playoffs every season between 2010 and 2016. Things have got even worse since then and they have not made the playoffs since 2016.
Things will have to drastically improve if they wish to add a 12th Stanley Cup in the near future.
2. Toronto Maple Leafs (13)
The second team in this list and last Canadian team is the Toronto Maple Leafs who have picked up 13 Stanley Cups in their time, however were things get interesting for the Maple Leafs is the fact they have failed to win a cup since the year 1967.
The Leafs won a few cups here and their but their most dominant period came between 1941 and 1950 were they won six of their thirteen cups. After almost 10 years without a cup they went on to win three in a row between 1962 and 1964. Three years later winning their final Stanley Cup to date.
This is what the world looked like the last time the Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup:

Since 1967 they have been to the finals zero time, and made the semifinals on four occasions with their last coming in 2002. There is hearsay that the Maple Leafs are cursed as they have had numerous occasions this century to make the finals and have made the playoffs every season since 2016, often coming into the playoffs as one of the favorites to win the Stanley Cup, but thus far they have not been able to produce a 14 Stanley Cup.
The good news is their consistently in the playoffs and are one of the best teams in the league right now so a cup could be on the horizon.
1. Montreal Canadiens (24)
In today’s day and age of hockey, it might seem inconceivable that any team could win the trophy as much as the Montreal Canadiens did back in the day, especially the Canadiens themselves as they have gone 30 years without lifting the trophy.

The Canadiens dominated the NHL in the 50s, 60s and 70s, winning a total of 16 Stanley cups during those eras. Their most recent victory came in the 1992-93 season and their last appearance in the finals came in 2021 were they lost out 4-1 to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the finals. Interestingly prior to the playoffs in 2021 the Canadiens were ranked as the highest odds team to lift the trophy, so the fact they even made it to the final was an achievement in itself.
The Canadiens have currently gone two seasons without making the playoffs and both years finished 8th in their division. It doesn’t look very likely that Montreal will be adding a 25th Stanley Cup anytime soon.
