The Top 10 Most Pitcher-Friendly Ballparks in the MLB

If you want to go to a baseball game or see a lower-scoring game, check out these ten ballparks listed below. These ballparks have seen the fewest runs and home runs compared to other ballparks in the MLB. If your team is playing in one of these, there are some things to consider about the venue before placing a bet at one of the top MLB betting sites suchEverygame (check our Everygame Review)

Let’s finish the list using data from the last three seasons. That means we’re basing these rankings off the last three years in the MLB.

1. Petco Park (San Diego Padres)

petco stadium

Petco Park allowed the fewest runs per game last season. While there were more home runs than other stadiums, singles, doubles, and triples were down from last season.

It’s rated as the worst ballpark for runs, 27th for singles, and 29th for doubles and triples.

2. Tropicana Field (Tampa Bay Rays)

Tropicana Field saw the second-fewest runs scored. The stadium also doesn’t bring in a lot of home runs or singles. But doubles are a hotter commodity in Tampa Bay, for whatever reason.

In this ballpark, there are wide-open bullpens in foul territory. With more foul balls in play, it’s a favorable spot for pitchers.

3. Citi Field (New York Mets)

Citi field

Don’t tell Pete Alonso, but Citi Field scored the third-lowest runs per game this season. Home runs weren’t always easy to come by. But triples are really difficult to find at Citi Field.

That’s ultimately why the Mets don’t build their team around speed.

4. T-Mobile Park (Seattle Mariners)

There are plenty of spots to hit home runs in Seattle. However, if getting triples at Citi Field is tough, check T-Mobile Park. It’s incredibly challenging to earn a triple in T-Mobile Park. Players should get awards for pulling something like that off.

5. Busch Stadium (St. Louis)

Getting a double or home run in Busch Stadium has been difficult. The stadium is the fifth-lowest in runs and fourth-lowest in doubles. The Cardinals’ home is also the third-hardest ballpark to hit a home run in.

6. Oakland Coliseum (Oakland Athletics)

There’s been talk about the Athletics moving to Las Vegas. Therefore, we might not have the Oakland Coliseum around much longer in the MLB.

Either way, it’s a difficult place to score runs and has been the second-lowest in home runs in the last three years.

Who wants to go to a baseball game without any home runs? Even dating back to 2010-2016, Oakland Coliseum produced 94 home runs for every 100 runs scored.

7. Comerica Park (Detroit Tigers)

The Tigers have a pitcher-friendly ballpark. While some areas are good for teams, like triples, hitting a home run is the hardest in Comerica Park.

The Tigers should build their team with speed and try to capitalize on the triples. Finding power in this stadium will be challenging.

At Comerica Park, the fly ballpark factors were over a standard deviation of below average for the fourth straight season.

8. Nationals Park (Washington Nationals)

Nationals Park

For whatever reason, hitting a single in Washington is the hardest thing to do regarding the data.

Nationals Park is in line with other ballparks for triples, doubles, and home runs. But compared to other teams’ stadiums, the single doesn’t happen as often.

9. Minute Maid Park (Houston Astros)

Minute-Maid-Park

The same thing could be said about Minute Maid Park. Even with a left-field fence that is pretty close to the infield, hitting a single in Minute Maid Park hasn’t been very easy in the last three seasons.

Everything else has been on par for Minute Maid Park compared to other stadiums.

That short porch will make this ballpark a hitter ballpark for some of the right-handed bats with power. But for most hitters, who don’t have ridiculous power, Minute Maid is definitely a pitcher’s park.

10. Oracle Park (San Francisco Giants)

Oracle Park is one of the hardest places to hit a home run. In the right-center field, the wall is high, and the corner is deep. However, there’s an increased chance of hitting a double or triple in the ballpark. So now all is bad at Oracle.

With more chance of other types of extra-base hits, the Giants still have a better park for hitters than the other eight teams.
