In the middle of January, the Chicago Bills inducted Jerry Krause into the 13-member Ring of Honor class. However, Krause died in 2017, so only his widow, Thelma, was there to accept the honor.
Krause built Chicago’s dynasty in the 1990s, but fans were booing Krause because of how the dynasty ended. The way the dynasty was portrayed in the documentary series, “The Last Dance,” showed it might’ve been Krause’s fault that the Bulls took a downturn because of him.
However, when this went down, the Bulls broadcaster, Stacey King, criticized fans for booing. Even Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated agreed that this was one of the most embarrassing moments in Chicago sports.
No matter how the Bulls dynasty ended, he built a six-time champion, which is an incredible feat regardless. Many agreed that it was disgraceful that Chicago fans did to boo his widow while accepting the honor.
Let’s look at what exactly happened and how this behavior may affect your NBA betting.
Krause Built The Bulls
It’s shameful that fans will boo someone who built teams that included Phil Jackson, Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant, and Dennis Rodman. He also always had one of the best benches in the league during his time with the Bulls.
I’m sure Chicago fans want to take back their actions. But it’s a little too late at this point. This is like the New England Patriots fans booing Tom Brady and Bill Belichick for winning them six Super Bowls because now they’re coming off a four-win season, and the dynasty collapsed.
It just shows that fans are ungrateful for the moments they’ve had with a franchise. Instead, people always want to be negative and complain. Sports are entertainment. It’s supposed to be fun and help build memories.
But that’s the nature of the business. That’s how sports will always be. When something bad happens, fans will boo louder than cheer if something good happens. It’s rare to find optimistic fans during bad times.
Meanwhile, it just seems like the Bulls fans didn’t understand what really went down. Looking back, Chicago’s owner Jerry Reinsdorf was likely more of the problem than Krause was in allowing the Bulls dynasty to slip. But you also have to remember some franchises never win in a lifetime. The Bulls added six trophies in one era, which is absolutely insane.
Steve Kerr’s Thoughts
Steve Kerr played on some of those Bulls teams. Because the Warriors were playing the Bulls that night, Kerr was able to see what happened in the front row. Kerr said it was shameful and that he was devastated for Thelma for the Krause family.
He couldn’t imagine what the fans were thinking when they elected to boo Thelma.

DeMar DeRozan’s Thoughts
The Bulls’ star player, DeMar DeRozan, was asked about his thoughts on the whole Krause situation. He agreed that the Krause family shouldn’t have had to endure something like that.
DeRozan also acknowledged that you can’t take away what he created, and without Jerry Krause, the Bulls wouldn’t be as historic as they are. DeRozan admitted that Krause deserves credit as long as basketball is around.
“It just sucks that their family had to endure something like that. You can never take away what he created. Without Jerry, there wouldn’t be the historic Chicago Bulls history.”

What’s Next?
Hopefully, fans around the league and in other sports recognize just how shameful booing is. Booing never works for anything. You can boo your favorite team and make them more upset, or you can cheer them on and try to be positive.
There’s a saying, “If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say it.” That should be used more in sports. Nothing ever good comes out of being negative. For example, we can link this story to the MLB.
The Phillies fans were annoyed with how Trea Turner was playing in 2023. But instead of booing him, they supported him. His entire game turned around, and he put together an amazing second half of the season that helped lead the Phillies into the playoffs. Sports psychologists will use this story whenever they hear booing from the same fanbase.
When you show support, it’s a much better outcome than booing.
The Bulls fans learned the hard way. Some of those fans weren’t even born when Krause was building that Bulls dynasty. Others had some beers in them. You can’t take fans seriously. But it was still very disrespectful and embarrassing by Chicago fans.
